How to stop a massacre
Monday, July 23, 2012 at 7:03AM I’m a firm believer that THIS is the answer… the criminals need to have a fear that they aren’t the only ones armed. You can never keep a gun from a bad guy. Give more guns to the “good guys”.

I think it's more complicated than that.
In this case specifically there are a number of concerns. I think it's worrying that the guy fired on on the offender even once it was clear they were retreating, also one of the offenders was armed only with a baseball bat, was shooting him reasonable? He also continued to fire on them as they ran (presumably) on to the street without any idea who else might be out there - he could easily have injured or killed bystanders. What would his legal standing be if that happened (let alone his mental and emotional state).
The the theoretical situation is Colorado would potentially a number of armed audience members firing on a well armed and armoured shooter do much to reduce the causalities? It seems likely they would have either been shot themselves, or hit more bystanders.
Another factor, I think, is the escalation that occurs once a second gun is present. Not applicable in the Colorado situation, but in many others an armed offender has the power, unthreatened he has no reason to fire on anyone but as soon as another gun is drawn gunfire is almost certain. Maybe the offender is shot, maybe the armed civilian is, or maybe a number of unarmed bystanders are.
I don't think more guns are necessarily the answer. They may make a positive difference in some cases, but I think it's equally likely to work out badly. Also an armed offender believing it to be likely that some bystanders may be armed might make them more prone to fire on anyone who appears to be making a move for a gun.
...but this isn't really why I came to your site - not looking for an argument, just figured I'd drop my opinion while I was here.

Okay, we're all Familar with the second amendment. We don't need to see something so absurd, that it borderlines being insensitive to the tragedy. It never fails that after a tragedy in this world you can always count on some idiot posting a pointless video that is just that, pointless and insensitive.
Yes, if we are in the Wild West. This is the fastest answer, typical fascist answer. I know because we invented the fascism.
