Tutorial - Parenting in After Effects - Dance With Me

In this tutorial I wanted to dig a little deeper into the way parenting works especially in a 3D composition. I’ve been working on a kenetic typography piece and I came up with this little technique for bringing new items into a deep composition and figuring how to get things in front of your camera.

As always I’m suspecting there is a better way to do this and I welcome the input from anyone on how to go about doing this.

If you like this tutorial, you should check out the one I did on the Render Queue in AE.

More 7Lions - Live

In March we went to Vegas to watch the Lions play at an Autodesk event. Peter Dippery, Paul Koblic and I flew in and out in about 18 hours, about as much Vegas as I can stand.
This was all shot on my iPhone, out of sync ‘b-roll’ shots peppered in from other songs, and the audio was recorded from a Zoom N1 sitting on the dog house at the front of house position. I didn’t even ask to patch in I just wanted the perspective from the mix engineers seat. I figured it should sound good from that position. I synced the Zoom Audio to the base iPhone clip and then laid in a few extra shots.
I think it would be fun to do a fan based video, just ask everyone to roll on one song, with their iPhone (4S preferred cuz its 1080) and then bring their phones to come to a download station at the venue to give up their clips.

7Lions - Emergency

Watched this song, “Emergency”,  from 7Lions yesterday on the YouTubes and LOVED it. We’ve already contacted the band about doing another video for them. But check it out from Coachella, As of this posting, it has only 136 views (a lot of them are me).

Podcasting is fun.

Check out the podcast.

Since the summer of 2010 I’ve been participating in Carl Olson’s DigitalFilm.TV podcast. It’s been a lot of fun. Once a week, (give or take) Carl and I log on to Skype and chat about what is going on in the industry with a focus on “Digital Convergence”.

Since January 2012, we’ve added a regular guest, really more like a “News Correspondent” Mitch Aunger, other wise known as “Planet Mitch” from planet5D.com. Mitch has added a real solid base to our conversations and made things seem much more organized.

In addition, we started a segment a few months back where we hightlight a digital artist talk about and share links to their work. Although I don’t always come prepared for this segment, it has proven to be another element that has added to the show.

Podcasting takes patience to build a pattern and a format that works for you and your audience. The real trick is to stick to it. Anyway, if you are at all interested in digital film making and story telling, check out the show.
